Busch die-cutting machines: 50 years of excellence

16.10.13

The very first Busch die-cutting machine for the production of labels has been delivered in September 1963 to printing company Alfons Hauck in Lauda-Koenigshofen, Bavaria / Germany. Meanwhile are working thousands of Busch die-cutters in 117 countries and carry out their precise and reliable task. The term ‘buschen’ is still used in some countries when die-cutting labels and similar products.

The ram-type machines work by pushing the material piles through the die to create the required shape. The die is manufactured by die makers according to the required shape. The slightly inclined cutting direction ensures an optimal waste removal and performs

  • a production with very tight tolerances;
  • die-cutting of a wide product range of labels up to children’s booklets;
  • die-cutting of a wide format range from minimum 10 x 10 mm up to 330 x 380 mm.

Model B is after patent expiry (unfortunately) the most copied die-cutter world-wide, but unmatched in quality, precision, performance and safety. The ongoing technical development is reflected in a model range for each individual requirement — for small, medium or large runs. The advantage of a Busch die-cutter is characterized by its flexible application for a wide product range and the technical feasibility if difficult materials and shapes have to be processed – a speciality for the Busch die-cutter.

Model A offers the maximum die-cut size of 180 x 180 mm and is especially used for smaller label jobs. The machine performs up to 900.000 labels p/h — depending on the machine execution. Model AL is the world's lowest priced die-cutter with counter-pressure, light barrier controlled.

Model B with increased punching power and larger cutting size is used for all types of material, especially plastics for credit cards, telephone- and loyalty cards, plastic flower and plant stickers, passports, playing cards, as well as note pads with bevelled edge straight or formed.

The large light barrier controlled die-cutters BL, BLS and CL process the maximum die-cut-size of 220 x 260 mm up to 330 x 380 mm for large scale jobs. PP and PE foil for inmould labels (IML) for the food and pharmacy industry are processed with counter-pressure for minimising stretching of the material during the cutting process. The mobile counter-pressure unit is available for all Busch die-cutters.

A major advantage of Busch die-cutters is the flexible production with or without counter-pressure. The counter-pressure unit is easy to fit to the die-cutter in place of the delivery tray which can be refitted again within 30 minutes for jobs without counter-pressure.

Busch die-cutting machines are noted for their safe operation, short set-up times and minimum maintenance. The machines are manufactured since the beginning in own works in Germany, as usual in premium quality casting guaranteeing production with very tight tolerances — even after decades.
